How to pause in the middle of a mess

All of us have given over to perfectionism at some point or another. I think it might be part of the duality of being a spiritual being in a human body. Wouldn’t existence be so much more palatable if everything were wrapped up in a neat little bow?
Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that here. Life is a bit of a rollercoaster— and sometimes we just have to hang on while it takes us for a spin. We can do everything “right” and still get busted open. (Ask me how I know…)

But we can always find a pause no matter where we are. Even when everything else is going wrong, you can cultivate a place of genuine self love inside of you. From here, you’ll be able to access the thread of deep knowing that you are good, safe, free no matter what.

Here’s how:


1. Close your eyes and start to breathe deeply. (I know, eye roll, but it WORKS so do it) Bonus: Put on my subliminal self love rewilding meditation to play while you breathe. Download it for free here.
2. Start to watch the stories your brain tells you. Let them pass without grabbing onto them or moralizing them. Keep breathing and letting your thoughts pass. This takes some practice, so be gentle with yourself.
3. When you mess up (and you will mess up at some point), say to yourself, “Oops. I let that story run the show for a second. It’s ok. I forgive myself. I love myself. I trust myself.” Keep repeating, “I forgive, love, & trust myself,” for as long as you need to.

As long as you keep practicing staying present, releasing the stories, and offering yourself unconditional forgiveness & love, you will begin to feel the weight lift. The mess will still be there when you get back unfortunately. After all, being human is still messy regardless of whether you’re enlightened or not. But the place of pause, the place of rest, that golden thread of deep & complete self love can only be found inside you.
