To create a pleasurable life, slow waaaaay down

Why is it so freaking hard to do things intentionally? If my mind is rushing a million miles an hour with anxious thoughts, the last thing my body wants to do is slow down and pay attention to the moment. I’d much rather mentally check out of the present moment by worrying over what’s next on my to do list.

Right now I’m in a season of making intentional steps forward. All of them are scary. (I mean, the phone calls alone! ☎️😱) And a huge part of this process is slowing down and considering those steps along the way to make sure l’m not just on my bullshit, carelessly rushing forward trying to avoid uncomfortable emotions as per use.

Because how do I know where l’m even going?
Whose path am I on?
Why would I trust that the beliefs & patterns that cause me immense suffering will somehow make me happy if just do more of them much, much faster?
There is no Ideal Future Moment that can be found by avoiding the present one. It doesn’t work like that.

Then this quote from Lao Tzu pops into my head: “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”
The things that are right for me, the things that are meant to be, will happen when I’m living slowly and intentionally. When I’m more attuned to myself, I see things clearly and don’t get stuck overthinking and second guessing everything (…as much).
I trust myself more here. I experience more joy too. There’s peace in knowing that hurrying along at a breakneck speed isn’t going to make Good Things come any faster. The flowers bloom when they are ready, and so do we. If we don’t slow down, we might miss it.
So take a breath and allow ourself to be where you already are. 🌸
